One thing I always used to wonder when looking at my cat is “doesn’t it get boring just laying around all day”? Sure, she looks content, stretched out atop the radiator, but there must be more to life!

It turns out there is — working from home has given me unique insight into Eva’s daily routine, and she is one busy cat!

Morning

Everyone’s day starts at 7.45 am when my alarm goes off — a clear hour later than when I was going to the office every day, much to Eva’s chagrin. She trots into the kitchen and waits patiently by her bowl for breakfast to be served.

This action must be completed before the humans can do anything else, including making coffee or having a shower. She’s got a busy day ahead, after all.

Once satiated, she likes to have cuddles in bed. Need to pee? Tough luck. She’s on a strict schedule and this is snuggle time.

Then it’s time to get to work, for both humans and cats. While we set up our desks at the dining table, Eva clocks in for her morning birdwatching shift. They might attack any day now; one must stay alert to the danger.

Once she’s satisfied that the pigeons across the street are no closer to making good on their plans to invade, she settles on the bed for a well-deserved rest.

Afternoon

It’s lunchtime! Old habits die hard, so it’s usually still a sandwich for the humans, but Eva has more expensive tastes.
